Living With A Roommate

College is a time to build numerous relationships and, one of the most important relationships that you may ever cultivate is with your roommate.
Roommates come with different expectations. When you’re living with someone you need to be able to give & take. Healthy communication can help to avoid friction.

Money Matters
It can be difficult juggling finances during college. Take time PRIOR to arriving on campus to budget your money. Estimate the total cost of your year and expenses. Don’t forget to include spending $$. You will want to go out with friends!!!
The wise use of a Student Loan can be a great help to you. But, don’t forget...it is only a LOAN!
Job Opportunities
Getting through College may be a financial struggle for some, unless a job opportunity becomes available. Gardner College does provide for some on campus employment. These jobs include Library duties, Office duties, Snow removal, Kitchen help, Cleaning etc.
Keep the following suggestions in mind if you plan to go job hunting...
Keep Work Hours to a Reasonable Amount
More than 20 hours per week is difficult. Look for a job with flexible hours. Make sure that you can work your job around your classes..not the other way around! Be sure to read the College catalogue which talks further about job opportunities.
Time Management
One of the most difficult things for some students to come to grips with is an effective use of their time. There are many different theories but, each individual most come up with what “works” best for them.
However, one of the basic steps is to learn to prioritize.
What assignment do you need to complete first? Which project will require the greatest amount of time? When is the library open for research?

To manage your time more effectively try...

Making lists.
-
Break larger lists into smaller ones.
-
Work on one thing at a time
-
Define tasks specifically.
-
Designate yourself a “study space”.
-
Keep the number of tasks down to a manageable size.
-
Check your progress often.
-
